Evans Valley Fire District #6 - Important Update on Burn Permits
Our fire department remains committed to ensuring the safety of the Evans Valley community. Effective immediately, burn permits are no longer required for open and barrel burning of Class A materials (yard debris, brush, untreated wood) on designated burn days.
To continue promoting safe burning practices, please call the burn hotline at 541-776-7007 daily for updates on burn day status and safety guidelines.
This adjustment is designed to streamline services while upholding our dedication to public safety. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe. For further guidance, contact Jackson County Air Quality Management or the Department of Environmental Quality.
Outdoor Burning Guidelines
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) oversees regulations related to open burning and air quality. To report illegal burning, smoke, or air quality concerns, please file an online complaint or call 888-997-7888.
Outdoor burning regulations vary based on location, season, and weather conditions. Please review the rules below before burning.
Backyard Burning
- No Burn Permit Required: Burn permits are not needed for Class A materials.
- Check Burn Day Status: Before burning, call 541-776-7007 or visit the Jackson County Open and Barrel Burning website. Please do not contact the fire department for burn day information.
Acceptable Materials: Only organic materials, such as yard debris, trimmings, and clippings, may be burned. Dimensional lumber, trash, or other non-yard debris is prohibited at all times. Ensure materials are dry and loosely stacked to promote airflow within the burn pile. Source: OAR 340-264-0070
Safety Distance: Open burning must be conducted at least 50 feet from structures or other combustible materials. For approved burning appliances, such as burn barrels, clearance may be reduced to 15 feet, or to 25 feet if the burn pile is 1 cubic yard or less in diameter. Source: 2010 Oregon Fire Code 307
Emergency Protocol: If a fire threatens nearby structures or spreads, call 911 immediately.
Agricultural Burning
Commercial agricultural burning is allowed only on designated burn days and during approved hours, as regulated by Jackson County and DEQ. For burn day information, call 541-776-7007.
